Webb City's Pace, Sargent named athletes of the week

Webb City basketball players Eli Pace and Abby Sargent have been named the Zimmer Marketing Male and Female Athletes of the Week brought to you by JL Mobile Truck and Trailer Repair.

Pace, a senior, had a strong pair of games for Webb City in the Class 5 District 6 tournament. Pace started the tournament with a 19-point performance against Hillcrest in the opening round to go along with six rebounds and three assists. Against Springfield Central in the semifinals, Pace poured in 21 points to go along with three boards and two assists.

“Eli has a tremendous work ethic,” Webb City coach Jason Horn said. “In my opinion, he is the best point guard in Southwest Missouri.”

Sargent, a sophomore, had 13 points and 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double against Willard in the Class 5 District 6 quarterfinals. She finished two assists shy of a triple-double, with eight dimes. In the district semifinals, Sargent finished with 22 points, six rebounds and three assists to go along with five steals on the defensive end.

“Abby has done a great job this season,” Webb City coach Grant Berendt said. “She can fill up the stat sheet. We are looking forward to big things in the future.”
