The Class 2 District 3 girls wrestling tournament was held at Belton High School over the weekend with several local girls from the area qualifying for state.
Carthage’s Kaylee James took first place at 130 pounds after beating Lee’s Summit West’s Darilyn George by fall midway through the second period.
Also for Carthage, Emely Hernandez placed fourth at 135 pounds to qualify for the state meet. She fell to Bylee James of Nixa by fall in the first period in the third-place match.
Irish Lee also is headed to the state meet for Carthage. She took fourth place after falling to Nixa’s Ava Frye by fall in the third period.
Webb City’s Maddie Barchak is the first Cardinal on the girls side to qualify for the state meet. She took third place at 170 pounds after defeating Rolla’s Delaney Miller by a 4-3 decision.
