A DREAM COME TRUE: Local coach signs with MLB organization

Former area pitching coach Jason Immekus is getting the chance of a lifetime—taking his talents to the next level as a pitching coach in the Cincinnati Reds’ organization.

“The opportunity to get back on the field is something I am definitely excited about,” Immekus said. “The end goal was always to be in an affiliated organization and eventually try to win a World Series.”

Immekus was recently a former pitching coach for the Crowder Roughriders (2018-21), the Missouri Southern Lions (2009-15) and Pittsburg State Gorillas (2016-18). He said his time spent in the area was invaluable to taking the next step in his career.

“I have a debt of gratitude to so many people in that area,” Immekus said. “There are a lot of guys I still talk to and bounce ideas off of. … So many good memories and so many foundational memories of my baseball life come from that area and that’s something that I kind of pride myself on, staying in touch and making sure you don’t forget where you came from.”

For the last three years, Immekus—a Carthage High School graduate—has been working with Premier Pitching Performance. P3 trains pitchers at every level of competition, designing pitching development programs for college and professional coaches. Premier Pitching and Performance athletes are trained for strength, skill, velocity, recovery and pitch design.

“I think it was a combination of a couple of things,” Immekus said about his time with P3. “It gave me the opportunity to explore some content you might not have time to, like very specific pitch-design situations, ball-flight data, how different humidity and altitudes can affect ball flight. … There is just such high level detailed information that we have access to everyday that allow me to go on these little rants, deep-dive exploring different aspects of the game. … It’s just learning those things that I think we all knew a little bit about, but it’s like baseball school and you’re developing a deeper understanding.”
