Carthage wrestler Caden Groom and Webb City wrestler Emma Combs were named Zimmer Marketing’s Male and Female Athletes of the Week for the week ending Jan. 4 brought to you by JL Mobile Truck and Trailer Repair.
Groom, a sophomore, had an impressive performance at the Carthage Varsity Holiday Duals. Groom finished the tournament with a 5-0 record, earning three falls, a 10-0 MD and a bye. He is 19-2 on the season.
“Caden is a physical wrestler who has seen great success to start this season,” Carthage wrestling coach Nathan Kelly said. “The way he pushes the pace in a match allows him to find success even in close matches. As a state qualifier as a freshman, we have high hopes for what Caden will be able to accomplish this season and beyond.”
Combs, a senior, went 4-0 on the way to winning the Lady Viking Holiday Wrestling Tournament at Parkview High School. She won by fall in each of her matches, including a pin at 1:32 in the first round in the championship match against Republic’s Aara Shade.
“I’m really proud of the way Emma performed this week,” Webb CIty coach Dallas Smith said. “She was well prepared and made the most of her opportunity. Bonus points in tournaments help propel the team forward and she was hungry to do her part in that with four falls.”
