HOOPS ROUNDUP: CJ beats Joplin and Nesoho tops Seneca

Carl Junction built an early lead and never relinquished it on the way to a win at Joplin on Friday night.

Carl Junction moves to 6-2 to start the season, while Joplin falls to 2-4.

The Bulldogs take part in the Neosho Holiday Classic, while Joplin is hosting Booneville on Dec. 28.

Joplin opened the game with the first bucket of the night from the perimeter before the Bulldogs outscored the Eagles 20-7 through the rest of the first period to hold a 10-point advantage.

Joplin cut the lead to two possessions and the first half wound down, but the Bulldogs went into the half on top 28-20.

The Eagles made a run to open the second half, outscoring the Bulldogs 19-14 to cut the margin to three with one quarter to play, 42-39.

Carl Junction held strong down the stretch to secure the win.

Wyatt McAfee had 20 points for CJ to lead all scorers. Deacon Endicott added 11 points in the win and Cooper Vediz scored eight.

Fred Taylor and David Bhend each had nine points for Joplin, while Cooper Williams scored eight.

NEOSHO BOYS 64, SENECA 55

Neosho built an 11-point advantage by halftime and held down Seneca from making a run in the second half on the way to a win on Friday.

Neosho is 3-5 on the season and hosts the Holiday Classic from Dec. 26-28.

Seneca is 0-2 on the season and is also taking part in the Neosho Holiday Classic.

Kaiden Asberry led Neosho with 22 points, while Zach Forsyth had 14 points. Oliver Martin added 11 points and Kanten Smith scored 10 to give the Wildcats four players in double figures.

Jace Schultz had 19 points for Seneca, while Tyrone Harris and Zane Grotjohn each scored 10 in the loss.

SPRINGDALE GIRLS 57, CARTHAGE 46

Springdale held a double-digit lead by the end of the first quarter and methodically pulled away to an insurmountable lead to start the fourth quarter.

The Tigers fall to 3-3 on the season.

Carthage takes part in the Pink and White Classic with theTigers opening the White Bracket first round by taking on against Willard on Dec. 28.

Maggie Boyd had 17 points to lead the Tigers in scoring, while Lauren Choate added 14.

In other area scores, New Heights Christian defeated diamond 57-48.
