On Monday, several local teams were in action on the hardwood with both the New Heights Christian boys and girls earning wins over Baxter Springs, with the McAuley Catholic boys also adding a win.
NEW HEIGHTS CHRISTIAN GIRLS 63, BAXTER SPRINGS 22
The New Heights Christian girls team limited Baxter Springs to single-digit scoring in every period, including just one point in the fourth quarter, on the way to the win on Monday.
Libby Fanning had a game-high 22 points to lead the Cougars in scoring. Ava Lett added 17 points and Kinley Marsh finished with eight in the win.
New Heights is 5-2 on the season and takes on Diamond on Friday.
MCAULEY CATHOLIC BOYS 59, JASPER 33
The McAuley Catholic boys moved to 7-1 on the season following a win over Jasper on Monday.
McAuley built a double-digit lead after the first quarter and never looked back in the win.
The Warriors were led in scoring by Alex Bohachick’s 14 points. Max Anreder and Michael Parrigon finished with 11 points each for McAuley.
The Warriors are in action next with a matchup at Northeast Vernon County on Thursday.
LOCKWOOD BOYS 59, THOMAS JEFFERSON 54
Thomas Jefferson held a slim five-point lead heading into the fourth quarter before Lockwood took the advantage and the win with a strong final stanza.
Jack Twiss sank seven 3-pointers and led Thomas Jefferson with 28 points, while Kohl Thurman had 10 points and 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double. Will Twiss finished with eight.
The Cavaliers are 3-4 on the season and are at Jasper on Jan. 7.
NEW HEIGHTS CHRISTIAN BOYS 68, BAXTER SPRINGS 49
The New Heights Christian boys team defeated Baxter Springs.
