NHCA's McMillan, McAuley's Parrigon named athletes of week

New Heights Christian Academy boys cross country runner Colton McMillan and McAuley Catholic girls cross country runner Olivia Parrigon have been named the Zimmer Marketing Male and Female Athletes of the Week for the week ending Nov. 9.

McMillan, a junior, earned a podium finish at the boys’ Class 3 State Meet at the Gans Creek Cross Country Course, crossing the finish line in third place in a time of 16:53.8.

“We felt confident he would be right in the mix for the state championship,” NHCA coach Phillip Jordan told Joplin News Hun. “To go from not on the podium two years ago, to 28th place to 3rd place is quite the accomplishment.”

Parrigon, a sophomore, placed 11th in the Class 1 girls' run, crossing the line in a time of 20:55.

“She had a good start and for the most part held her place over the course of the race,” McAuley cross county coach Andy Youngworth told Joplin Sports Hub. “She was as high as 10th at one time and in 14th in the middle of the race and used her 800-meter speed to pass a couple of girls at the finish line.”

Coaches can nominate for Athletes of the Week by submitting the name, sport and stats from the previous week for your athlete to sports@zrimarketing.com.
