Carthage swimmer Braxton McBride and Jasper middle hitter Crystal Smith are the Zimmer Marketing Male and Female Athletes of the Week brought to you by JL Mobile Truck and Trailer Repair and Elements Construction Concepts.
McBride set a new school record with a time of 22.21 seconds in the 50 freestyle at the Southwest Missouri Championships in Springfield to take second place. McBride also added a fifth-place finish in the 100 freestyle and was a part of the fourth-place 200 freestyle relay team and fifth-place 400 freestyle relay teams.
“Over the past four years Braxton has worked hard and been a great example for his teammates both in and out of the water,” Carthage swim coach Braden McBride said. “He has grown into one of the strongest leaders we have ever had on the CHS Swim Team. His leadership makes any coach’s job easier. Braxton is training to make his final meet at the State Championships next week a memorable one.
Smith had an astounding 36 kills and a block against Archie and 17 kills, five blocks and three aces against Galena in the first two rounds of the state tournament to help lead the Eagles to the Final Four this weekend.
“She came in really clutch for us in terms of getting kills and blocking, and even her play on the back row getting some digs up for us,”Jasper coach Daniel Osborne said. “Just keeping the team motivated.”
