Carthage running Landyn Collins and Webb City golfer Violet Haut have been named the Zimmer Marketing Male and Female Athletes of the Week for the week ending Oct. 26 brought to you by JL Mobile Truck and Trailer Repair and Elements Construction Concepts.
Collins, a senior, was instrumental in Carthage’s 42-20 win over Neosho to wrap the regular season. He rushed 26 times for 161 yards and two touchdowns, while also hauling in four passes for 54 yards to total over 200 yards of offense.
“He is a kid that just comes out and works hard every single day,” Carthage coach Jon Guidie said. “It shows up in the way he runs the football. Just some hard yards that he is able to pick up. It was a real solid performance out of him. He has been really good with the football, not turning it over. He is a downhill runner and has been able to get some really hard yards for us.”
Haut scored a 90-100—190 to finish in 48th place in the girls Class 3 State Tournament last weekend. Even more impressive, she’s just a freshman.
“She is one of those rare athletes within a sport that understands her sport very well, better than most her age at least,” Webb City coach Jason Brown said. “She definitely has the head for it. She is constantly working. She is hard on herself but not too hard. She recognizes what she needs to work on and is putting in time outside practice and school time to get better. She is dedicated to the sport and trying to get better at it.”
Coaches can nominate players for Zimmer Marketing’s Athletes of the Week by emailing the student-athlete’s name, sport and stats or milestones for the previous week to sports@zrimarketing.com.
