Joplin quarterback Daniel Rose and Joplin cross country runner Ava Doll have been named as the Zimmer Marketing Male and Female Athletes of the Week for the week ending Oct. 19 brought to you by JL Mobile Truck and Trailer Repair and Elements Construction Concepts.
Rose, a junior, was instrumental in Joplin’s 35-0 win over Willard. Rose completed 14-of-20 passes for 214 yards and three touchdown passes, while also rushing six times for 24 yards and another touchdown.
“This is his first year starting and he just keeps getting better week in and week out,” Joplin coach Curtis Jasper said. “He started off 11 of 11 for his first 11 pass attempts, which really got us going. Offensively, we scored touchdowns on our first four drives before having to attempt a field goal on our fifth drive before halftime.”
Doll’s impressive season continued as she took the top spot in the Central Ozark Conference West race. Doll crossed the line in first place with a time of 18:43.95.
“Ava raced exceptionally well at the COC West race," Joplin cross country coach Dora Eastin said. "She demonstrated both skill and smart tactics throughout the course. Her relentless determination and hard work really stood out as she tackled the each challenge with confidence and grace. It's inspiring to see her achieve her goals while continually pushing her limits. I am proud of her journey and excited to see what she accomplishes next."
Coaches can nominate athletes of the week by emailing the name, sport and stats of the student to sports@zrimarketing.com.
