CROSS COUNTRY: Webb City sweeps COC Meet; Joplin also shines

The Webb City boys and girls cross country teams swept the Central Ozark Conference Meet over the weekend, while Joplin had each individual champion on the way to second place.

In the boys 5000-meter run, Joplin’s Chance Tindall took first place with a time of 15:52.38, while Webb City’s Noah Lankard placed second in a time of 16:15.05. Joplin’s Grey Edwards crossed in fourth place in a time of 16:20.34, while Webb City runner Andrew Dawson took fourth at 16:36.19 to round out the local top-five finishers.

The Cardinals took first in the team standings with 41 points, while Joplin was in second with 47.

Aaron Dawson (16:56.43) took sixth, while James Dalrymple (17:09.80) placed 11th for Webb City. Rylan Davis (18th, 17:30.89) and Kason Dickens (20th, 17:49.71) rounded out the Cardinals’ top-20 finishers.

Joplin’s Jacob Tatum (10th, 17:06.56), Noe Fischer (13th, 17:17.68) also finished in the top 20 for Joplin, while Carthage’s Javen Byrd (16:59.53) placed eighth and Devin Smith (17:23.93) also placed in the top 20.

In the girls 5000, Joplin’s Ava Doll took the top honors with a first-place time of 18:43.95. Webb City’s Brooke Hedger (18:57.57) and Olivia Klotz (19:54.37) finished in second and third place, while Carthage’s Maggie Boyd took fourth in a time of 19:56.84. Rounding out the top five was Webb City’s Emma McKinzie in a time of 20:07.37.

In the team standings, the Cardinals took first with 26 points, while Carthage was second at 57 points and Joplin third at 59 points.

Brooke Collard (seventh, 20:26.33), Araceli Perez (ninth, 20:29.12), Amelia Antillon (12th, 21:04.76) and Aspen Ritchie (16th, 21:32.67) all finished inside the top 10 for Webb City.

Kyrie Britton (sixth, 20:23.43), Makayla Carter (20:56.92) and Nalyjah Madison (18th, 21:36.43) all finished inside the top 20 for Joplin, while Lauren Carney (eighth, 20:28.66), Chloe Fitzsimmons (13th, 21:21.20), Stefany Lopez-Reyes (15th, 21:28.56) and Genesis Fuentes-Elias (17th, 21:35.19) all placed in the top 20 for Carthage.
