Joplin's Chance Tindall claims top spot; Webb City boys win East Newton Invitational
The Webb City boys varsity cross country team earned a first-place finish at the East Newton Invitational while Joplin had the top two individual finishers and took second place over the weekend.
The Cardinals took first with 40 points, while the Eagles were in second at 55. Thomas Jefferson scored 97 for this place, while Carthage (101) and Carl Junction (116) rounded out the top five.
Joplin’s Chance Tindall led the pack with an impressive time of 16:24.53, claiming the top spot.
Joplin secured another podium position, with senior Grey Edwards finishing second in 16:40.61. Carl Junction’s Isaac Willoughby followed close behind in third, clocking 16:45.24.
Webb City had a notable presence near the top, with Noah Lankard (17:08.35) and Andrew Dawson (17:09.03) taking fourth and fifth, respectively. Freshman Aaron Dawson also had a standout race, finishing eighth with a time of 17:30.05, while teammates James Baldassaro (17:39.97) and Rylan Davis (17:47.08) helped Webb City maintain a strong team performance.
Carthage’s Javen Byrd crossed the line in seventh place with a time of 17:27.29, while teammate Devin Smith followed in 15th (17:52.61). Marlon Kubicek also contributed to Carthage’s solid outing, finishing 18th (18:09.50).
Thomas Jefferson was well represented by freshman Will Twiss, who placed ninth (17:33.97), with Spencer Long close behind in 14th (17:52.00). Braden Honeywell-Lynch added a strong finish at 18:00.73, securing 17th place.
Carl Junction’s Jacob Garrett (18:09.60) and Nikash Yeary (18:28.63) also delivered competitive results, finishing 19th and 21st, respectively.
Webb City girls earn team win, with Hedger taking first individually
The Webb City girls varsity team highlighted the East Newton Invitational with a first-place finish as a team as well as on the individual standings.
Webb City’s Brooke Hedger crossed the finish line in first place with a time of 19:01.48.
Joplin's Ava Doll gave a valiant effort and finished second, posting a time of 19:12.94. Fellow Joplin teammate and freshman Makayla Carter followed closely in seventh place (20:49.55), while Kyrie Britton claimed ninth (20:50.51), and Nalyjah Madison placed 13th with a time of 21:26.69, rounding out a strong team performance for the Eagles.
Webb City continued to shine beyond Hedger’s victory, as Araceli Perez (20:49.40) secured sixth place. Emma McKinzie finished right behind in eighth place (20:50.36), and Olivia Klotz placed 14th with a time of 21:26.71. Brooke Collard added to Webb City's depth by taking 16th place (21:32.69), and freshman Aspen Ritchie completed the team’s scoring with a 19th-place finish at 21:43.52.
Carthage’s top runner, senior Maggie Boyd, delivered a strong performance to finish fifth overall with a time of 20:26.24. Lauren Carney placed 11th (20:55.63), while Chloe Fitzsimmons (21:36.89) and Hadley White (21:46.99) contributed to Carthage's solid team effort by finishing 17th and 19th, respectively. Freshman Stefany Lopez Reyes wrapped up the Tigers’ top 20 finishes, coming in 23rd with a time of 21:58.92.
Carl Junction's runners also made their mark, led by Elsa Dogotch, who placed 12th (21:17.90), and Marissa Newman, who finished 15th (21:31.92). Delaney Harris added a strong 17th-place finish with a time of 21:41.67.
The East Newton Invitational highlighted the depth of talent in local cross-country programs, with Webb City, Joplin, Carthage, and Carl Junction all securing top finishes.
