CARL JUNCTION 36, MARSHFIELD 0

In our Week 3 Zimmer Marketing Game of the Week brought to you by JL Mobile Truck and Trailer Repair, Carl Junction (2-1) pulled away from Marshfield for a convincing win in the Bulldogs’ home opener as well as the team’s first-ever game in the Ozark Mountain Conference on Friday.
After scoring on its first possession thanks to a 40-yard run by Jaxton Wobken, CJ swung the momentum in its favor for good at the end of the first half when Jett Mills hauled in a 35-yard touchdown pass from Mason Gilbert with less than a minute to play only for Carl Junction’s Sayre Sundy to follow it up by intercepting a pass on the ensuing defensive possession before taking it 33 yards to the house for a pick-6 touchdown with 17 seconds left for a 20-0 lead.

Mills hauled in a second touchdown pass, 37 yards, in the third quarter before Carl Junction pushed the lead to 34-0 on a short-yardage touchdown from Marcus Lopez-Durman.

Kane Clark added a safety early in the fourth quarter to run the clock.

The Bulldogs’ defense limited the Blue Jays to 70 total yards of offense (42 rushing, 28 passing) while the CJ offense totaled 345 yards of offense (356 rushing, 89 passing).

Gilbert was 5-of-5 passing for 89 yards and two touchdowns. Lopez-Durman, the reigning Zimmer Marketing Male Athlete of the Week, carried the ball 24 times for 160 yards and a touchdown. Tony Stewart carried the ball seven times for 45 yards. Mills caught two passes for 72 yards and two touchdowns.

CARTHAGE 49, GLENDALE 14

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Class 5 No. 4 Carthage put it all over Glendale in the first half to build a 35-6 lead at the intermission before pulling away in the second half.

The Tigers (3-0) forced a trio of turnovers, a pair of fumbles and an interception, without giving away the ball one time.

Carthage totaled 351 yards of offense (292 rushing) and allowed the Falcons to gain 230 yards of offense (139 passing).

Landyn Collins led Carthage with 20 carries for 131 yards and four touchdowns, while Brady Carlton had 12 carries for 51 yards and two more touchdowns.

Josh Hill led the defense with seven total tackles. Bland added four tackles-for-loss, while Nate Norbury picked off a pass and Jackson Hettinger and Tate Nichols each recovered fumbles.

Carthage hosts Class 6 No. 5 Nixa in Week 4.


NEOSHO 28, LEBANON 14

Neosho is 3-0 for the first time since 2016 after the Wildcats went into halftime tied and won the battle in the second half against the Yellowjackets. 

Neosho and Lebanon were tied at 7-7 going into halftime before Neosho blanked the Yellowjackets in the third quarter and doubled up Lebanon in the final quarter to stay perfect on the season.

Neosho gained 401 yards of offense to Lebanon’s 320 yards. The Yellowjackets had the advantage on the ground, 230 yards to 183, but the Wildcats had a stronger attack through the air, 218 to 90 yards.

Cade Spiva completed 21-of-28 passes for 218 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. He added 11 carries for 77 yards and another score.

Denver Welch carried the ball 26 times for 117 yards, while Bostyn Patterson hauled in a team-high seven passes for 94 yards and score and Hudson Williams caught six passes for 60 yards and two touchdowns. 

Colby McGehee (15) and Trey Hardin (13) led the team in total tackles, while Jaxon Ertel had two tackles-for-loss. Hardin and Ertel both recorded sacks. McGehee had two fumble recoveries.

Neosho hosts Waynesville in Week 4.

SENECA 42, NEVADA 0

Class 3 No. 2 Seneca scored twice in each of the first two quarters and ran away from Class 4 No. 7 Nevada on Friday.

The win gives Seneca a 3-0 record on the season, while Nevada falls to 2-1.

Kaden Clouse and Tyrone Harris ripped off big plays for touchdowns in the first quarter before Brodie Probert and Roman Miller each scored within 5 yards of the end zone in the second quarter to lead 28-0 at halftime.

Probert and Miller added their second touchdowns of the game in the third quarter to put the game away for the Indians. 

Probert rushed 11 times for 158 yards and two touchdowns, while Miller had 114 yards and two scores on 11 carries. Clouse closed the game with six carries for 107 yards and a score.

Harris caught two passes for 49 yards and a touchdown.

Hunter Hanes had nine total tackles, while Kye Adams had seven and two tackles-for-loss.

NIXA 49, JOPLIN 0

NIXA, Mo. — Class 6 No. 9 Joplin traveled to Class 6 No. 5 Nixa and fell into an early hole it never dug out of.

Nixa scored twice in the first quarter, with the second touchdown coming off a Joplin turnover,  and added three more touchdowns in the second quarter to take a 35-0 advantage into the intermission. Nixa cruised in the second half.

The loss is Joplin’s first on the year, as it sits at 2-1.

Joplin had less than 200 yards of offense in the loss, with Toryn Jones leading the way on the ground with 14 rushes for 46 yards. Davin Thomas caught three passes for 43 yards.

GREENFIELD 40, NEW HEIGHTS CHRISTIAN 32

GREENFIELD, Mo. — Greenfield scored twice in the fourth quarter to rally back for a win over New Heights Christian on Friday.

Logan Decker ran for a touchdown and threw a touchdown to Cannon Miller in the third period to send the Cougars (2-1) into the fourth quarter on top 32-26. Greenfield responded with two unanswered scores to earn the win.

Decker threw for 173 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He added 17 carries for 155 yards and three touchdowns on the ground.

Levi Durling added 16 carries for 78 yards and a touchdown and led the team on defense in tackles with 12 total. A Smith had nine total tackles and recovered two fumbles.

New Heights Christian is at Liberal on Friday.
