Carl Junction junior running back Marcus Lopez-Durman and Carl Junction junior setter Jadyn Howard have been named the Zimmer Marketing Athletes of the Week for the week ending in September 7, brought to you by JL Mobile Truck and Trailer Repair.
Lopez-Durman had a monster game in the Bulldogs’ first win of the season, 25-13, against Heritage, Arkansas, last Friday.
“He was huge Friday night,” Carl Junction coach Todd Hafner said. “We leaned on him. We gave it to him 32 times. It was one of those situations where he was doing a good job, the guys up front were doing a good job and between them, they really carried us offensively throughout the night.”
Carl Junction hosts Marshfield this week in CJ’s Ozark Mountain Conference opener, which is also out Zimmer Marketing Game of the Week.
Howard was instrumental in Carl Junctions 7-0 record last week. Among those wins, the Bulldogs won the Nevada Classic after beating McDonald County (25-12, 25-13), Harrisonville (25-10, 25-16) and Neosho (25-13, 25-10) before defeating Nevada (25-15, 25-20) in the semifinals and Clever (25-22, 25-21) in the championship game.
“She did a really great job of running our offense and putting our hitters in great positions to be successful,” CJ coach Cheryl Sharples said. “She did a really good job of reading the other team and giving us great matchups.”
Howard totaled 184 assists last week, including a career-high 40 assists against Mount Vernon. She added 18 kills, 16 aces in service and 60 digs.
