New Heights Christian track and field athlete Logan Decker and Carl Junction track and field athlete Sydney Ward have been named the Zimmer Marketing Male and Female Athletes of the Week brought to you by JL Mobile Truck and Trailer Repair.
Decker, a senior, had an impressive showing at the Ozark 7 Conference track meet. He earned a first-place finish in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.41 seconds and added a second-place time of 25.33 in the 200. In field events, Decker took first place in the long jump with a mark of 6.58 meters, while taking first place in the high jump with a mark of 1.93M.
“God has blessed him as an athlete,” NHCA coach Daniel Lewis said. “His work on weights have increased his strength and explosiveness, and that is why we are seeing such fantastic results. He currently has the longest mark in long jump in Class 2 at 22 feet, 6 inches and the fifth highest in high jump. We expect even better performances as he moves through the postseason.”
Ward, a senior, had an impressive showing at the Bulldog Invitational. She earned a pair of top finishes. She took first place in the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.25 seconds, while also showing off her sprint speed with a first-place time in the 200 at 25.77.
“Sydney is an absolute pleasure to coach,” Carl Junction coach Adam Merrell said. “She is talented, but incredibly hardworking and humble. Sydney is the fastest girl to ever come through Carl Junction. She currently holds our school record in the 100, 200 and 400 meter dash. She has been a huge part of the success of our program and will be impossible to replace.”
